Kindness first
Compassionate horsemanship means listening to the horse and the rider. Calm beats fast, every time.
Solitude Stables is a family-run horse farm in Harwood, Maryland, where horses, nature and community quietly come together. Our wooded acres sit a full mile from the road, wrapped in open fields and forest — the kind of hush you can feel the moment you turn down the lane.
We are passionate about caring for both our horses and the land they live on. Until 2022 the farm ran entirely on solar power, and today we still run primarily on solar energy while keeping every practice as environmentally thoughtful as we can.
This is a place for riders of all ages and every experience level. Whether your child is brand new to horses or already completely horse-crazy, we work to create a safe, encouraging and genuinely fun atmosphere — one where students build horsemanship skills, responsibility, confidence and a real love for animals.
With peaceful wooded trails and beautiful natural surroundings, our farm is truly a trail rider's paradise, and we are proud to share it with families, beginners and experienced riders alike.

We celebrate small wins. A rider who feels safe is a rider who keeps coming back — and keeps growing.
We see ourselves as caretakers of this place, not just its owners. Every ride is a chance to preserve the ecosystem and to teach a quiet harmony between people, horses and the wildlife who share these woods.
Savanna is a lifelong horsewoman with a deep passion for animals, nature and education. Growing up around horses, she developed an early love for riding and horsemanship that has grown into more than 20 years of riding experience and over 15 years of teaching riders of all ages and skill levels.
She holds a Master's degree in Conservation and Biodiversity, and she brings that love of wildlife straight into her teaching — helping students understand animal behavior, communication and compassionate horsemanship. Originally trained in English riding and now expanding into Western disciplines, Savanna creates a calm, encouraging space where riders build confidence, responsibility and a genuine connection with horses and the natural world.
Tomi-Lyn developed a lifelong passion for horses from an early age, growing up surrounded by riding, training and caring for them. While she built a career as a registered nurse with a background in cardiac ICU care, her greatest joy has always been found outdoors with horses, animals and nature.
A devoted mother who homeschooled her two daughters, Tomi-Lyn holds faith, family and a love of country living close to her heart. With a warm, encouraging spirit, she loves helping others feel at home around horses while building meaningful connections with both animals and the outdoors.

Yes. Until 2022 the farm operated entirely on solar power, and today we still run primarily on solar energy. Caring for the land is as important to us as caring for our horses, and we keep our practices as sustainable as we can.
We would love that. Because we are a small working farm tucked a mile off the road, visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention. Reach out and we will arrange a time for you to meet us and the horses.
Our wooded countryside farm includes a sand riding ring, multiple grazing paddocks and miles of quiet wooded trails. Everything is designed with horse comfort, rider safety and a calm atmosphere in mind.
Photos can only say so much. The best way to understand Solitude Stables is to walk the lane, breathe the air and meet the horses — the heart of our family horse farm in Harwood, Maryland.
